GPU Face: GeForce RTX 3070 vs Radon RX6700 XT

We caged the GeForce RTX3070 with the Radon RX6700XT to see which one comes up.

GPU Face: GeForce RTX 3070 vs Radon RX6700 XT

nvidia stock

Both the GeForce RTX3070 and the Radon RX6700XT hit the high-end market with official prices starting at around $ 500.  These are the two best graphics cards, and our GPU ranks at the top of the benchmark rankings.  But which card carries the crown of the house?  We pitted the two contenders against each other to see the performance, features, performance, price and more to determine the winner.

Launching Artex 3070 on November 29, 2020 with the official price of T499, Nodia defeated AMD at the gate.  The RX 6700 XT did not arrive until March 18, 2021, almost five months later.  In the interim, the shortage of GPUs has become another major problem, helping to boost Ethereum mining prices.  Our GPU Pricing Index shows that an AMD card sells for about $ 1,000 on eBay, which is actually about 70 170 for the 707070's.  Sounds like a fair price.  In other words, official prices right now are pure fantasies, but the assuming you can actually buy one 1 of these GPUs they exist, if you're lucky how do they stack up?

  Gaming performances

For most gamers, performance plays an important role in deciding which graphics card to buy.  We've benchmarked dozens of Baker games, with 1080p, 1440p, and 4K running extremely high quality (or equivalent) settings.

Here are the results.

All games were tested without ray tracing (if supported), so we're looking at the traditional performance of rasterization.  Overall, 1080p connects efficiently, with the RTX 3070 taking a 1% lead.  This does not mean that Nvidia wins every game, and, and some games strongly support AMD - Hassan's Kurd Wallah, Borderlands 3, and Forza Horizon 4 all go in RX 6700 XT, which  I show 26% loss by Allah.  There's a catch naturally: Wallah Harson's Belief is the first game in the series to use DirectX 12, and we know from experience that supporting a GPU with low-level APIs for a developer is complete.  As possible  Wallah and Borderland 3 are both AMD-promoting games, so these results aren't uncommon.

The same is true of the flip side: Watchdog Legion and Metro Exodus are Nvidia's promotional games that favor the 3070s.  While we're at this point, for the record, Division 2, Dirt 5, Far Cry 5, and Alien Brigade were also AMD's promotional games.  Final Fantasy XIV, Metro Exit, and Tomb Rider Shadow were Nvidia's growing games.  That is, we reported that we experimented with six games promoted by AMD compared to the four games promoted by Nvidia, and Nvidia still came out on top.  Barely)

Kicking up to 1440p and 4K does no good to AMD.  Where two GPUs are effectively tied to 1080p, the 3040 LED increases by 3% in 1440p Ultra and 10% in 4K Ultra.  It's especially interesting that AMD's card has 50% more VRAM.  There are situations when extra memory comes into play, but the Nvidia card has more memory bandwidth, and at higher resolutions, AMD's 96MB Infinity Catch isn't that useful.

When we look at sports that support ray detection, things only get worse for AMD.  We're testing more extensively in DirectX Writing (DXR) and VulkanRT games in the coming days, but in most cases, the 3070's lead only grows with RT's ability.  And that's before we consider Nvidia's DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling), which can increase performance by 30-50% or more without significant loss of image loyalty.

  Winner: Nvidia

Perhaps AMD's RX 6700 XT was not intended to compete directly with Nvidia's RTX 3070, but the graphics card market is in turmoil when it comes to pricing.  On paper, the RTX 3070 costs $ 20 more, which basically means the two compete in the same market segment.  Nudia comes off with a modest win in gaming performances, and its lead only grows with more demanding scenarios, such as Kiran's discovery.  DLSS sealed the deal, now supports more than 20 major games with unrealistic engines as well as tech, and AMD still has no shipping alternative.  If you're after a higher frame rate, the RTX 3070 beats the RX 6700 XT.

Price

We have already mentioned the difference between prices and government prices and real world spending.  Right now, the price of a high-end graphics card is ridiculous - or maybe we weren't crying so hard.  Remember when the RTX 3090 launched with a starting price of 1,500 and everyone thought it was over the limit?  Right now, you'll have to spend the same amount to stop the RTX 3070 off eBay, and that's 30% less than the 3090.

AMD's RX 6700 XT, by comparison, seems much more reasonable, with an average eBay sale price of just 4 4,984.  This means you will get a few percent less performance for about 25% less money.  Or at least, that's what you need to spend if you want to take a chance on eBay.

Pricing at reputable retail stores is a different story, a story of empty shelves.  Navig showed an example of 19 RTX 3070 cards ranging from $ 500 to (830 (just one of them).  We have no way of knowing how many of these cards Navig sells each week, or when more will arrive.  Turning to the RX 6700 XT, Neogg listed 26 different models that range in price from 80 480 to 8 830.  In general, the prices look almost comparable, but another 3070 cards are being sold on eBay, if anything.

The good news is that, unlike the other big new cards, the RX 6700 XT appears to be shipping more.  At the end of March, for example, there were only over 300 sales on eBay, with the RX 6800, 6800 XT and 6900 XT each having 60-100.  At the same time, more than 800 RTX 3070 cards were sold on eBay during the same period.

Winner: Like AMD, but really none

Even if the RX 6700 XT could theoretically come at a much lower price than the RTX 3070, by paying scalper prices on eBay, it's an awkward victory.  Both cards sell twice as much as MSRP on eBay, and quantities are very limited.  But if you must have one, for RX 6700 XT - 900– 1,000 for an RTX 3070 - 1300– $ 1400 is a much better deal - unless you are mining cryptocurrency  Are  The performance of one of the GPUs is comparable to the RTX 2080 Super, which was readily available in 2019 and early 2020 for 700.  Look at India and all that, but we strongly advise against paying more than $ 600 for any one of these cards.

  Features and Tech

The RX 6700 XT and RTX 3070 go foot-to-foot on most features and superficially this category looks like a tie.  Nvidia is extremely low delay and reflex technology;  AMD has anti-league.  Nodia has G-Sync.  AMD has free sink.  Nodia presents GeForce's experience.  AMD has Radeon settings.  Too tight for Tate.  However, here are some things to point out.

First, the Nvidia DLSS is not yet in direct competition.  Don't even get us started on Radio Boost, which can definitely improve the framerate but when it starts and stops it often causes commotion and frame packing issues.  In supported games, it's hard to tell the difference between DLSS quality format and local solution with TAA - unless you look at the framerate and DLSS runs 20SS50% faster.  The Fidelity FX Super Resolution has to be very good to catch DLSS, and it will need the help of the developer, and both will take time.

Elsewhere, the technologies that are now available are in favor of Nvidia.  G-Sync and FreeSync clearly offer the same thing: tear-free gaming and adaptive refresh rates.  Except in practice, harmony works better.  G-Sync Sync can work with FreeSync displays, while FreeSync can't work with G-Sync displays.  Yes, G-Sync monitors cost more, but when you're constantly looking for a computer to use, a better display is worth an extra $ 100– $ 200.  The same is true of Radon Anti-Lug and Nudia Ultra Low Literacy and Reflex.  Both can improve delays by minimizing buffering, but NULL is a little better, and games that involve reflexes directly have much better delays.

One area where AMD has clear success is: VRAM capability - actually two areas, such as AMD's Infinity Catch, are guaranteed to be mentioned.  The RX6700XT offers 12GB DDR6 at 16GBPS, compared to just 8GBDDR6 RTX3070 at 14GBPS.  If games really start to use more than 8 GB of VRAM and less than 12 GB, AMD's GPU can improve overall performance.  The downside is that Nudia's cards have more raw bandwidth, and adjusting settings (such as texture resolution to fix a notch) often eliminates capabilities.  Such discussions eventually lead to performance, however, which we have already covered.

  Winner: Nvidia

While this is definitely more of a personal choice, we can easily say that Nvidia's features work a little better than AMD's alternatives.  Team Green and RTX 3070 had another victory, albeit a decision by a division judge rather than a knockout.  If you feel strongly about VRAM capabilities, or prefer open fidelity FX options to proprietary solutions such as DLSS, this category may change otherwise.  But basically, we feel that Nvidia's Ampere architecture is far more advanced than AMD's RDNA2 architecture.

  Strength and talent

When it comes to GPU power consumption and performance, Nvidia has generally taken advantage of AMD.  It began replacing AMD's first-generation new parts in 2019, greatly helping TSMC move into the N7 7nm process.  With Ampere, Nudia upgraded to Samsung's 8N 8nm process, which is more about improving Samsung's 10nm tech.  It's not the same as the TSMC solution, but it's better than the previous generation's 12nm process.

However, while building the umpire, Nvidia didn't just miss Turing's design.  There are major upgrades in ray tracing hardware, tensor cores, and GPU cores.  The Ampere offers more performance than Turing while also requiring a lot more power.  The RTX 3080 4K Ultra delivers about 35% better performance than the RTX 2080 TI, but it also uses about 30-30% more power - 333W - compared to the 259W of the 2080 TI.

AMD's RDNA2 chips stuck with the same TSMC N7 process as RDNA1, and also increased power consumption for advanced parts, but AMD's performance really could not compete at the extreme end of the spectrum.  In our metro exit testing, the RX 5700 XT has 40 CUs and a power consumption of around 215W.  The RX 6700 XT also has 40 CUs and consumes about 215W, but it's 30% faster than the previous iteration.  Alternatively, the RX 6800 XT uses 303W of power (40% more than the 5700 XT) and delivers about 80-90% better performance.

The end result of various structural changes is that companies are usually tied up when it comes to performance.  This is especially true when looking at third-party cards: custom RTX 3080 cards often use power around 350W, and so do custom RX 6800 XT cards - a few models on both sides of 400W  Enter the range.  It's also a tie in the mid-range, using the RTX 3060 TI drawing 206W and RTX 3070 218W, slightly above and below the RX 6700 XT.

The budget segment can still technically go to Nudea, but then the budget segment doesn't exist at the moment. GTX 1650 Super Sailing cards with 400 or more, the RX 5500 XT.

  Winner: Tie

Architecturally, Nvidia's Empire GPUs outperformed AMD's RDNA2, but TSMC's N7 process overtook Samsung Foundry's 8N process.  When we act on all aspects of both sides, power and efficiency are so close that it is impossible to declare a winner.  Like gaming performances, some workloads may be in favor of AMD while Nvidia is supported in terms of performance and power consumption, but the current generation shows no major flaws on either side.

  Drivers and software

Both AMD and Nvidia offer regular drivers, especially with at least one release each month, when a lot of new games come out.  Not surprisingly, depending on the game, performance and support can fluctuate to one side or the other.  A few examples from last year are worth mentioning.

Watchdog Legion was running better at launching on Nvidia hardware, and although AMD's latest generation of GPUs worked to detect the ray, it was a breakdown - it accurately portrayed all the effects of RT.  Did not  The game's latest patches and driver updates eventually improved the situation, but Nudea won the WDL match.  This was expected, as Nvidia was also promoting the game.  The same thing happened with Cyberpunk 2077.  Forget the little launches for a moment.  The game went smoothly and looked good on Nvidia's RTX cards.  Now that a patch has been developed to finally enable RT support on AMD's new GPUs, Novidia still has the performance advantage.  Again, this was a Nvidia promotional title, so we'll expect more.

However, AMD also has promotional games.  Borderlands 3 and Assan's Aqeedah Walhalla both fall into this category, and both run better on AMD's latest GPUs - sometimes explicitly.  But from a high-level perspective, looking at the massive changes in the game, Day-0 driver support and performance is far less than the few examples presented here.

What about stability and other aspects of drivers?  Although there was a lot of noise about the black screens with the first generation new card, we could not solve these problems so much that they could not be solved by installing a clean driver.  The AMD acknowledged the problem and speculated that things were getting complicated, and we didn't see a major issue last year or so.  AMD drivers can auto-update, there are a large number of settings and other services that can be useful, and overall the RX6700XT drivers have done a great job in our experience.

The same is true for Nudia drivers, which is linked to the 2019 black screen issues.  Our biggest complaint with Nvidia is the data mining aspect that users need to log in and solve captcha.  But this is not a big deal in the big scheme of things.  When it comes to game optimization and streaming features, we enhance the GeForce experience with radian settings.

  Winner: Tie

It's easy to get caught up in seeing Manto talking to drivers, but the fact is that both AMD and Nvidia have been doing this for a long time, and the current state of GPU drivers is a big drawback for us both.  Has not caused.  If you've only used Nvidia GPUs and drivers in the last five or ten years, they're familiar and offer a lot of features.  The same can be said for everyone who has used only AMD GPUs and drivers during this time - except that AMD has further improved, so that where we used to edge Nudia first  There, AMD has closed this gap in the last few years.  We change the products of both vendors on a regular basis, which can be a little annoying at times (Hint: Display Driver In Installer works great for cleaning up most of the craft), and rarely  Rarely can there be a reason for a complaint.

Bottom line

The Radeon RX 6700 XT and the GeForce RTX 3070 are intertwined, with many relationships.  Even the categories where one side leads is close, but overall we give the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 a slight lead.  Eliminating cost and availability must be more important than any other factory, but unfortunately GPU is not very good in these matters.  Whichever company can make the most cards will inevitably win the overall battle.  Right now, based on our GPU Pricing Index, Nvidia tops the list in terms of availability - the RTX 3070 is currently one of the most widely used state-of-the-art GPUs.  ۔  (Salt grains with reference to naturally vague steam statistics.)

It will be an amazing day when any of these graphics cards sell for MSRP or less.  Unfortunately, this is unlikely to happen at any time during 2021, and once we get things done we will be able to see the next generation RTX 40 series and RX 7000 series.  It is being assumed that things are back to normal.  But it's a depressing thought, so let's not go there.

Anyone who actually manages to get one of these GPUs should be happy with the results.  Performance is similar to the previous generation RTX 2080 Super, and also beats the older RTX 2070 Super by about 15%.  This is not a major improvement in breeding performance, but an improvement.  Or it could be that you buy it at retail without having to jump through the Navig Shuffle and auto-report to Shennanigan.
