A battery of tests was performed by HDTV Test on the YouTube put the 4K Blu-ray players on the both consoles through their paces. Host Vincent Teoh used two identical LG CX OLED TV as a the basis for his comparison, as well several other of the best TVs available today.

In the color comparisons, the Xbox produced darker tones than PS5, losing some subtleties details. The Sony console rendered  4K/24Hz test images Teoh used in 12-bit colour rather than the Xbox 10-bit, which explains  difference in the quality. It is a little unusual to see this since the Xbox Series X does have 12-bit colours options available in its settings, but was not using them during the tests.

These are only problems you didn't notice if you were an enthusiast watching Blu-Rays regular. As Teoh himself notes: "most viewers won't the spot these small colour deviations in the real world content." 

The Xbox also skip frames from time to time in test. Skipping chapters on a Blu-ray movie seemed to regular causes the Series X to the skip frames, while watching "true 24-fps" movies also caused this  happen regular due to the Xbox playing the movies at the 23.96fps, more common standard. Meanwhile, the PS5 can handle to the true 24fps standard without a problem.

Chances are the that what these tests show won't really impact your enjoyment of your new console — assuming you can get the a hold of one. However, die-hard the Sony fans will no doubt be pleased that they have an edge over  Xbox Series X.
